What better way to wow a crowd during a Halloween party than a themed appetizer. Halloween with 3 kids and a big extended family means lots of fun parties and adventures. But also, not much time for extravagant meals. Kids want appetizers and treats that are tasty and fun to eat. This appetizer fits that bill and it is easy and quick to throw together. With a mummy-baked brie in the middle of this Halloween charcuterie, it is sure to wow. For the most part they are sliced cheese and meat plus a few sweet treats and crackers. The more themed items you add the better. You can use cookie cutters for the cheese slices and salami.

Boards
If you haven’t picked up a few boards yet for decorating or snacking, here are a few that I like.
This one from amazon has cheese knives and slide out sections for crackers as well as a cold plate for the cheese.

This set from Sams club is really all that you need and pretty enough to hang on your wall! Plenty of room to spread out. You could even do one for kids and one for adults.

The Mummy Brie!
This will be the main attraction on your Halloween charcuterie board. Get the kids involved and have them wrap up the mummy! I had a jar of cheese chutney from Ireland my sister gave me for my birthday so I used that. Any good quality jam or jelly will do for a filling. I have a recipe somewhere that calls for bourbon, brown sugar and pecans. That one I will share in the coming weeks for Christmas. I never use a recipe so I will have to measure the ingredients the next time I make it. For now, here is the recipe for the mummy brie!
Spooky mummy stuffed brie
Ingredients
- 1 sheet puff pastry
- 1 wheel brie cheese
- 2 candy eyes
- 1 egg
for the filling
- 4 tbsp Chutney of choice
Instructions
- Peel all of the rind off of the brie cheese. If you like the taste of the rind, you can leave some on. Too much rind will overpower the chutney.
- Thaw out your puff pastry so that you can work it a little. Once it has thawed enough that it will stretch out, take each corner and stretch it so that it will wrap around the brie cheese.
- Sit the brie in the middle and then take a knife and cut small strips on both sides leaving the top and bottom whole.
- Place 2 tablespoons of your favorite chutney or jam under the brie. Place the brie on top and then add two more tablespoons on top of the brie.
- wrap the top and bottom dough around the brie and then the strips across to look like mummy strips.
- Wisk one egg in a bowl with a fork until well combined and brush all over the top of the puff pastry.
- Top the pastry with 2 candy eyes
- Bake in the oven at 400 degrees for 20-25 minutes until the crust is golden brown.
Crackers and other snacks
I like offering a few different options for crackers. Gluten-free, club and Carr’s. For the kids I add fruit, cheddar cheese and yogurt or chocolate-covered pretzels. Trader Joe’s, Walmart and Food Lion are places that I typically find fall or Halloween-themed treats to put on the board. Olives, goat cheese, jam and walnuts, pecans or flavored almonds are good too. Think of it as a “snack” board. That always helps me decide what to include.
I hope you have fun with this recipe. Let me know in the comment section if you make this!
