Giving the room a warm feeling
I think my favorite thing about fall is the weather. It’s just when you start to get sick of it being cold BAM its 90 degrees for a day or 2. At least that’s how it is where I live. I love the warm colors and lamp lights, the Harty food we cook and the fact that we are forced to spend more time together because it’s cold outside and it’s dark earlier. The warm smells we put in our diffuser or candle we burn. All the smells are so inviting.
So, in this post I want to talk about a few ways we can make our homes feel cozy. It doesn’t take a whole lot of money or time usually but you totally can if you’ve got it. I have such fond memories of my mom coming home from work and doing this. It made doing homework so much more enjoyable. Even in the mornings before school she would get up before everyone and “cozy” up the space before we were up. She broiled cinnamon sugar toast most mornings and you would have thought it was a 5-star meal, we loved it that much.
Let the cozying up begin!
- Turn on all the lamps and turn off the overhead lights
- set your diffuser or candle to a fall blend. Think cinnamon, orange, vanilla, bergamot, cedar wood. something warm and woodsy
- Turn off the TV and turn on music. peaceful music not loud dance party music. I like jazz or 90’s country. Not everyone’s cup of tea but it chills me out.
- bake something sweet. Even if it is break and bake cookies or cinnamon buns out of the can. This is where my tip about freezing left over cookie dough comes in handy.
- declutter the living room with the laundry hamper method. I have an open concept so I do the Living room, kitchen, breakfast nook and staircase.
