beautiful fall wreath made with upcycled florals

This beautiful fall wreath is made with upcycled florals that needed new life. I had this wreath form leftover from another project. It came together in a matter of minutes using some items I had on hand and some from the dollar tree. Even the glue gun and glue sticks! Don’t be afraid to shop your own home when it comes to crafting. Upcycling a sad tired floral bouquet has never looked so good! I had been using some of these florals on my bookcases for the last 4 or 5 years. Wherever I needed to fill in with some warm fall colors. They look so good on this wreath.

Let’s get started!

My favorite part about making anything is rearranging it. Whatever it is, until it looks just right. When it comes to wreath making, I like to pick out several pieces that look like they would fit or mix and match well together. Then lay it all out and move the pieces around until they are just right. I like to get inspiration from magazines or Pinterest prior to getting started. If you do not have an old wreath that needs new life a simple google search for “rattan wreath forms” will give you lots of options. Amazon has some great options as well.

For the base I used a wreath with an inner diameter of about 10 inches. The main focal point is the bow. I really wanted to make the bow the star of the show so I showcased it with an orange burlap fan background. Before I glued anything down, I played with it until it looked just right. At first, I wasn’t even sure I was going to use the orange. I had no other orange in the arrangement. After playing with it for a few minutes I remembered I had several older florals laying around to add color around my bookcase. Adding those to my wreath made all the difference.

Tip: Remember when you are arranging to keep the main focal point symmetrical. Whatever you do to one side of the bow, repeat on the other side in some fashion. You do not have to keep your arrangement in the bottom center like I did. You could put it half way up the side or at the top. Bow placement will just change directions. Always have the tails flowing down.

Making the bow

For the bow, I wanted 3 loops on each side so I took my brown burlap and made an S pattern folding it onto itself until I had 3 full loops on each side. You are left with one piece that is not a loop. I used that to wrap over my knot to make it look more polished. Then I made a tail to match the one on the other side I was left with. I like my bow tails to be long on the inside and short on the outside. Sometimes I do the V in the middle.

Let’s see what you make! Time to get creative!

I posted a reel on Instagram of the process. It’s not the whole process but it gives you an idea. The most important thing to remember is to have fun and create something you think is beautiful. If you are curious about what I used I will post a list below.
