My favorite Christmas décor are home made. It has been a long tradition for the women in my family to go to the annual crafts shows in our area and to make our own Christmas decorations. We come home full of ideas of things we want to make! My grandmother also owned a ceramic studio. Some of my best childhood memories are centered around making ceramics. You don’t have to have a ceramic studio though. We are always finding fun affordable things to make each year. A few years ago we decorated wine bottles, last year we painted oyster shells and this year we painted a oyster shells again and let the kids paint some cute wooden pieces from the dollar tree.
The point is to let yourself get creative. Every time I look at the piece of art we painted or the ornament me painted or made, I think about the time that we spent together. Such good memories. Not to be a Debbie downer but I’m 39 this year and it feels like every year now someone is missing. Someone who was with us last year is not this year. remembering the times we had together is very comforting. Sad at first, but the memories themselves are happy ones.
These wine bottles were so much fun to paint. for these we fond pictures we wanted that would fit on the bottle. Painted the bottles using acrylic paints. We had some enamel paints but we don’t plan on washing these so it is not absolutely necessary. after the picture was the way wanted it and dry we painted a coat of modge podge all over and then sprinkled large glitter flakes all over. We then inserted a cork light in the top. They turned out so well! You can find all of these supplies on Amazon.
